An Introduction to Minority Business Enterprise Certification

Gavin Taylor • Jul 28, 2021

The Minority Business Enterprise Certification , also known as the MBE certificate, is established by the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) for minority or women-owned profitable US-based businesses. It brings excellent opportunities for minority-owned businesses by providing them networking, educational, and business possibilities. Various MBE programs are available for different regions and states. Minority-owned companies can benefit from such practices to gain profit and increase their visibility in the marketing world.

Who is Considered a Minority?

According to the eligibility of the MBE program, NMSDC considers any US citizen who is at least 25% Asian-Indian, Asian-Pacific, Black, Hispanic, or Native American as a minority. Eligibility is established through documentation reviews, interviews, screenings, and site visits.

Benefits of MBE Certificate

It allows access for these businesses to many networking events, MBE business fairs, and supplier databases. It gives them opportunities to form valuable relationships with other MBE businesses while also helping each other grow.
