Many small businesses can benefit from various government contractual services. These contracts earn regular revenues for the companies involved with the government when the times are slow. Further, these contracts are advantageous in increasing the company’s value and help obtain lines of credit and loans. However, getting government contracts can be a long and tiring process, which Government Acquisitions helps with.

What is the Aim of Government Acquisitions?

Government ACQ is for the businesses who want contracts with the government but often end up with minor mistakes that intervene in their successful acceptance. They also provide consultation for various government certifications and programs.

In the world of federal contracting, the U.S. government is the largest customer on Earth, but it is also the most bureaucratic.

           Government Acquisition

serves as a bridge between your small business and the complex federal marketplace. Here are 6 critical reasons why these services are essential for a business looking to grow through government spend:

            Bypassing the technical barrier

            - We handle the technical setup, ensuring your UEI (Unique Entity ID) and CAGE code are active and accurate without the common "Entity Validation" errors that stall most businesses.

            Maximizing "Set-Aside" Opportunities:

Billions of dollars are reserved specifically for small businesses with certifications like

WOSB (Women-Owned), SDVOSB (Veteran-Owned), or HUBZone

. Experts ensure your application is airtight, preventing denials that can force a one-year waiting period before you can reapply.

            Search Engine Optimization for SAM:

Just like Google, government databases use keywords (NAICS and PSC codes). Professional acquisition services optimize these codes so that when a Contracting Officer (CO) searches for a vendor, your business appears at the top of the list.

            Mitigating Compliance Risks:

Government work is governed by the FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation). One mistake in your accounting or labor reporting can lead to fines or debarment. Professional services help set up compliant workflows so you stay in the government's good graces.

            Identifying "Subcontracting" Entry Points:

Acquisition experts identify Tier 1 Primes that need small business partners, helping you build "Past Performance" which is the most valuable currency in the federal space.

            Predictable, Recession-Proof Revenue:

While the private sector may slow down, the government never stops buying. Acquisition services help you transition from "chasing leads" to "securing contracts," creating a stable, multi-year revenue stream that makes your business significantly more valuable to lenders and investors.

The federal government has started various programs to help the socio-economically disadvantaged business owners gain more access to Government contracts. Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small business (SDVOSB) certification is designed to help veterans prosper their businesses. The government has set a requirement of awarding 3% federal contracts to SDVOSB certified businesses, which means you can land contracts worth billions of dollars if you fall into this category.

What are the benefits of acquiring an SDVOSB certification?

There are various benefits of getting an SDVOSB certification for your business. Some of them are:

The primary benefit of getting an SDVOSB certification is that you can conduct business with the VA (US Department of Veterans Affairs). VA sets aside a significant amount of its sole source contracts only for VOSB’s and SDVOSBs that you become eligible for after certification.

The VA also provides better access to tax and capital relief to such certified businesses.

The SDVOSB certified businesses also get access to training and development programs that help them grow their business.

Apart from the VA, the SBA also offers various benefits to the VOSBs and SDVOSB certified businesses. Some of them are:

The SBA, like the VA, offers training and education to such businesses to help them grow.

The SBA also offers Veterans Advantage 7(a) loan to businesses owners with SDVOSB certification.

The WVETP also provides education and training to women veterans who are certified under SDVOSB.

EDWOSB Certification vs. WOSB Program

If you required government certificates. Government Acquisition Services should be your one-stop destination to get all types of Government certifications.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that nearly 20% of small businesses fail within the first year, and about 30% fail within two years. To help such companies, the Business Administration (SBA) has started several contracting assistance programs to help small businesses get federal government contracts. Two such programs include Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB) and Women-Owned Small Business Program (WOSB). However, many people believe that these programs are essentially the same since both are designed to help women business owners.

However, there are some differences. Here we will discuss those to help you understand these programs better.

           What is the WOSB program?

The WOSB Program enables contracting officers to expressly reserve or set aside specific contracts specifically for women-owned small businesses (WOSBs) or economically disadvantaged women-owned small businesses (EDWOSBs).

           How EDWOSB differs from WOSB?

           Qualifications

The major distinction between these two certifications is their qualifications - any business that qualifies for EDWOSB automatically allows for WOSB, but not the other way around. To be eligible for EDWOSB, over 51% of women’s ownership should also from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Whereas, to qualify for WOSB, 51% ownership should lie with women.

To qualify as economically disadvantaged as per SPA rules, the disadvantaged woman owner should not have a personal net worth in excess of 750,000 dollars. In addition, their average adjusted gross income for three years before application should not be higher than 350,000 dollars. Also, the fair market value of their share should not be higher than 6 million dollars.

           Advantages

           Changes in the WSOB program

The SBA has introduced some significant changes to the WOSB programs in the year 2020. They include:

The WOSB program is replacing certify.sba.gov with beta.certify.sba.gov.

This new change eliminates the self-certification option for EDWOSB. It helps set apart the sole-source contract for the WOSB businesses.

The new process also makes the application process more complex than earlier.

As of October 15, 2020, the previous portal ceases to exist, and businesses that were self-certified before can get the records from the new portal.

How can you get WOSB and EDWOSB certification?

The best way to get certified without hassle is to seek professional help from experts like Government Acquisition Services. You can apply for certification

Nearly 20% of small businesses fail in the first year, and 30% fail within their second year. Most businesses fail in the initial years due to inadequate finances, inefficient management, and poor marketing. Understanding the severity of the situation, the federal government launched the 8(a) business development program in

To join an 8(a) business development program, a business needs to get certified first. The program is divided into two stages wherein the first four years are developmental, and the next five are transitional.

5 Mistakes to Avoid When Registering with SAM

If you are looking for an organization to help you with government registration and certifications, Government Acquisition Services should be your one-stop destination.

           Registering the Wrong Business Name

A contract is framed and registered with the league name of your business. But most people make the mistake of registering with SAM under their trade name or fictitious name. It happens more often with sole proprietors than with any other business.

The problem arises when SAM verifies your business name with DUNS (Data Universal Numbering System) and finds a mismatch. So you will have to correct it before you can register with SAM. Corrections can take up to 2 working days before they reflect in the system, leading to further delays.

           Registering with the Wrong Intent

During the registration process, there are two options:

The first option allows you to apply for grants, loans, and other financial assistance programs and bid for federal contracts.

In the second option, you can only opt for grants and assistance programs.

Most business owners make the mistake of choosing the second option as it offers a more straightforward registration process. It precludes you from the ability to apply for federal contracts.

           Not Including Affiliated Companies

If you are a small business, you won’t face the problem of including affiliated companies. But if you are a large business, you can have various affiliates through ownership, management, or other relationships. If you don’t mention them during the SAM registration process, you may have to face legal ramifications for this oversight.

Self-Certifying as a Small Disadvantaged Business (SBD)

An SDB must be majorly owned ( More than 51%) by socially and economically disadvantaged people. The federal government has provisions for awarding at least 5% of federal contracting dollars to SDB. It is an elementary mistake but can have repercussions in the form of severe penalties.

Not Submitting Entity Administrator Authorization Letter

Most people feel that once they have filled the registration form, their job is complete. After 2018, you need to send a physical letter to the Federal Service Desk that identifies your entity’s authorized administrator in SAM. If you fail to send this letter within 60 days of your online registration, the authorities can deactivate your registration.
